Tying Up Loose Ends
I like the week between Christmas and New Year's because it gives me a chance to tie up loose ends. The chaos and rush, rush, rush of Christmas is over and I can breathe a sigh of relief because I've survived another holiday.
I take down the decorations and put them away for next year. I finish eating all the goodies without much guilt, because I know I'm going to start fresh on January 1st. I'll start that new diet and exercise regimen, but that's for next week. For now, I'm still eating, drinking and making merry.
During the week, I gather all the old receipts and bills that need paying, filing away the old stuff, organizing for the new. I take inventory of my freezer and pantry, making notes on what to buy and stock up on.
I also gather my thoughts. I think back over the year and see what I've accomplished and what still needs work in my life. My regular life and my writer's life. I make lists and goals and resolve to get back on track for a healthy productive lifestyle.
Looking back over this past year, all I can say is WOW!!! What a wild roller-coaster of a ride. My writing life changed drastically and all in a good way.
The eBook Revolution is truly underway and I'm proud that I got in on the ground floor. Or pretty close to the ground floor. With Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing and B&N's PubIt! program, not to mention Smashwords and All Romance eBooks, a writer can reach readers and start making money with the push of a button.
And that's what it's all about: Writing stories and reaching readers. Now, authors don't have to rely on anyone other than themselves. Yes, it's scary, but it's awesome, too.
I've sold close to 60,000 books this year. When I see that number, it's hard to believe. That's a whole lot of ebooks and a whole lot of readers.
Yes, my writing life has changed drastically. I'm living my dream of writing stories, sharing them with readers and making a little dab of money.
